My last semester of college I took an interactive graphic design course where I learned the fundamentals of designing websites/apps using Figma. I learned about wireframes, mood boards, and prototyping. A big project I worked on for the class was designing a Bingo app. Below is the entire process from brainstorming to final prototype.
Concept Statement:
Weekly challenges bingo is designed so that people have to complete random tasks (drink a gallon of water, throw a penny in fountain, take a picture of a stop sign, etc) through out a week to complete a bingo and compete against friends or all players on the app.
User Need Statement:
A bored young adult is looking for a new challenge game to get them to do more random interesting activities throughout the week. They join the challenge bingo app and race to compete against friends or all players to complete a weekly bingo of randomly assigned challenges/tasks to earn points.
During class everyone spit out ideas of what potential ideas can be used for themed Bingo games. The idea I really liked was to have a Bingo game that just makes a board with random tasks for its users to do. It would help inspire users to get off the couch. I wrote the concept statement, user need statement, and the user task flow off my idea. I presented this information to my class and got the green light to move on to sketching and building low fidelity wireframes.
I sketched out my idea out onto a piece of paper trying to capture all the information that each screen would incapsulate. I shared my drawings with a peer and received feedback which can be seen in my notes section of the page. I gained a better idea of what I needed to build. Next step was to construct a low fidelity wireframe using Figma.
The goal with this part of the project was to capture a layout and label gestures for interactions. I based this set up off my sketches and the user task flow chart. I presented these mockups to my class any recieved a lot of good feedback. For example, how would the game have proof of a bingo tile being completed? Like submitting an image? and would the tiles only have words, or would images be incorporated? These brought up a lot of ideas of how I could update my designs.
Once the basic mockup was established, here comes the fun part ... picking out the design style elements! I created a mood board of what feelings and vibes I wanted to capture in my app. I wanted it to feel fun and spontaneous to capture the main point of the game.
I decided to add a way for users to upload images and captions when they complete a task as a way of proof. I also incorporated a timer to count down from 8 hours to also prevent users from just completing the bingo game in the minutes and so it will actually span over a couple days to a week to complete.
